OK and Sarah are joined by two of our absolute favorite cartoonists Alex Degen and Alec Robbins to discuss One Piece both as a comicđŸ˜€ and as contentđŸ˜©. Alec’s fantastic thread on the “corporate experiment” that is Netflix’s One Piece prompted this excellent convo on art education, WGA/SAG actions, and flattening of culture that happens online. Alex and OK also endorse interesting live action adaptions that happened via ice and in kabuki. We want ART not YOUTUBE BYPRODUCT. We want DIGNITY not SLOP!! They are trying to feed us BUGS when we need REAL FOOD that will nurture our souls and lift our spirits. Isn’t that what One Piece is truly all about?? The long-awaited part 2 of A&L’s side pod, Fielderwatch, taking on the series finale of The Rehearsal with twitter’s most famous husband, Alec Robbins, and friend of the pod and union-certified painter of tunnels onto walls Hannah Guerrero! For a show that adores how tv gets made, it equally adores the psychological trauma of doing so, with the gut-wrenching sixth episode that speaks to not just the ethics of child actors as a concept, but expands on ideas first developed in Nathan For You, on what “help” can even mean. Hannah and Alec share their valuable insight as past and present film crew workers, explaining the actual level of labor that goes into the creation of the little moving square in your living room, and how those workplaces could produce great works democratically. Also, we didn’t take the week off, we did this interview!!

We revisit Hito Steyerl’s “In Defense of Poor Image” to make a point about naivetĂ© of the American left during the Obama administration. The web was a frontier, meaning conditions have always been ripe for dissemination of far right disinformation as well as highly polished neoliberalism. It’s a positive development that left popular discourse is able to identify properties like Hillbilly Elegy and Trial of the Chicago 7, as purposeful distortions of American injustice and poverty. How can our messaging compete with billion dollar media and political campaigns dedicated to convincing the masses that societal problems are their personal failings? Ezra Koenig, go on Art and Labor! You deserve this big Toblerone! Note: spoilers don’t really start til like 20 minutes in. We went to the anti-Amazon community forum and read a bunch of Bookchin, but instead of discussing either of those things we recap all of Neo Yokio. Please watch this incredible series about excessive wealth and demonic revolution.

good piece of writing about it: https://pome-mag.com/neo-yokio-the-anti-capitalist-revolution/
