Lucia, Sarah and OK finally succumb to their greatest foe: internet monopolies and 1/4” of rain. Dana Kopel of @153local, and formerly @newmuseum_union, returns! Dana’s new piece in the Nation, a review of Laura Raicovich’s Culture Strike with the extremely metal title “Is it Time to Abolish Museums?” (Editors, folks, am I rite?) pokes at the soft spots in art world people’s heads that let them doublethink their way into the Barcelona chairs of institutional power. We talk about our eternal will they/won’t they Strike MOMA, the limits of culture, the limits of strikes, and add a layer to the Art and Labor lost media iceberg simply titled “super donuts”

Hope everyone had a wonderful Mayday. What a busy weekend for NYC activism! Sarah and OK visit the Strike MoMA action and speak with William Powhida of Artists for a Post-MoMA Future (and many other art-activist projects) and prolific anti-imperalist printmaker Kyle Goen. Strike MoMA have actions planned every Friday for the rest of the summer and invite participation from others who agree with the statement. Don’t listen to the New York Times, listen to us, we were there. Choo choo! hop on board, it’s all your pals at Art and Labor! but wait, …who’s that there? that little caboose yonder? Why, it’s Sam Lefebvre with his new piece “Ruling Class Solidarity: Conflict & Growth at SFMOMA Reexamined” in tow! Together our intrepid boxcars brave a 4 hour time difference for the noblest of tasks: helping podcast listening nerds understand how art museums and the donors that love them make money off those little pictures you only get to see in the Taschen books your stepmom so kindly got you for christmas (take her where she’s at, ok?). Fucking trustees, real estate loans, private equity, and hedge funds, we gotta unearth all these money clowns. Coast2coast solidarity, that’s how we’re gonna do it baby!!!
